(continued from iPod Maintenance)
The ASI Write-On Handheld system frees the managers and owners from having to go to a fixed POS station to obtain information or to perform managerial duties such as viewing server’s orders (spot checks), deleting sent items, and discounting items and checks. The ASI Write-On Handheld provides a number of real time activity reports that facilitates the management of employees and enhances service to customers. And, of course, managers can always access the server functions to enter orders if need be.
One convenience for a manager to carry a Write-On unit is they may access a server table or bar tab to perform a variety of function without having to go to a POS. By default, the Write-On device only displays table and tabs belonging to the person logged into iPod. To open an order belonging to another employee:
Use the [View] button when you wish to check what is on the order. Use the [Cmd] button to changes to the order, such as price adjusting items or to apply discounts.
Note: The standard security settings for POS stations in regards to accessing other employee’s orders apply to the Write-On device as well. These setting are configured in the station configuration. Please consult the Restaurant Manager Manual if you are unsure about security level settings.
Use the Price Adjust command to adjust the price of an item. Note that you must have a sufficiently high security level to use this command.
Tap the item you wish to delete on the Order List window and move your finger across the row to affect the [Delete] button Continue the process by pressing the [Delete] button. Alternatively you can select the item on the Oder list, wait and tap again to affect the Item Command list. Select the Delete option on the Item Selection window. A third method is to select the item you wish to delete in the order window by touching it, tap the [Cmd] button and select the “Delete” option on the Selection window. Always finalize the deletion process by sending the order.
Select the item you wish to discount on the order list window, tap a second time to affect the item Command list. Select the Discount item (DI) on the option list. Select the appropriate discount you wish to apply.
Use this command to unlock a table on the system. Note that this command should rarely, if ever, be used. It should be used only if you are unable to access a table that is not being held by a fixed POS station or another handheld user.
This command allows you to retrieve the backup order from the Write-On iPod’s memory. The backup copy of the order should only be retrieved in situations where the order on the system is inexistent or incomplete. Typically an Alert Message will appear on the Write-On device when an order has been dropped. You may recover the order by first opening the order, tap [Cmd] and choose the Recover Order option. The backup copy is displayed on the screen for review. Buttons allow you to load the order or cancel the operation. You must have a security level of 5 or greater to execute this command.
A note on data integrity: To ensure an order is NEVER lost, the Write-On for Ipod Touch system always makes local backup (on the iPod) of the order BEFORE it is wirelessly sent and saved on the main computer (file server.) This virtually guarantees that you will always be able to recover an order after a file server or communications link failure.
ASI offers a complete reporting and monitoring package called RM Monitor. This can be used as an important management tool. There is an application available on iTunes for RM Monitor. It is suggested that RM Monitor only be installed on iPod units dedicated to managers. The reason for dedicated are twofold: RM Monitor requires internet access and your business may not want business information viewed by line employees. More information on RM Monitor can be on ASI’s Restaurant Manager website: http://www.rmpos.com
